At Rock Hard Festival Greece, one of heavy metal’s most unmistakable voices will take the stage when Udo Dirkschneider appears with DIRKSCHNEIDER for a very special performance built around the legendary songs he originally recorded with ACCEPT. In recent years, Dirkschneider has only occasionally performed full sets dedicated to this era of his career, making this appearance a rare opportunity to experience the classic material that helped define German heavy metal.
Udo Dirkschneider has built a career spanning nearly five decades, becoming one of the most distinctive and recognizable vocalists in the history of the genre. His gritty, raspy vocal style and unmistakable delivery helped shape the sound of ACCEPT during their formative years and made him a central figure in the rise of European heavy metal during the late 1970s and early 1980s. With his powerful stage presence and ability to turn simple hooks into massive crowd chants, Dirkschneider became synonymous with the band’s most iconic songs.
ACCEPT themselves emerged from the German rock scene in the late 1960s and eventually became one of the most influential metal bands of their generation. During the years with Dirkschneider at the microphone, the group released a series of landmark albums that established their reputation worldwide. Their 1983 breakthrough “Balls to the Wall” remains their most commercially successful release and produced one of the most enduring anthems in heavy metal. Other classic records such as “Restless and Wild” and “Metal Heart” further cemented the band’s legacy and influenced generations of metal musicians.
Dirkschneider parted ways with Accept in 1987 and soon launched his own band, U.D.O., which quickly developed into a successful act in its own right. Through U.D.O., he continued to build a substantial catalogue of albums, proving that his voice and songwriting instincts remained as powerful as ever. Over the decades, Dirkschneider has released numerous records with U.D.O., sustaining a loyal global fanbase and reinforcing his reputation as one of the true veterans of classic heavy metal.
For this special show, Dirkschneider will be joined by his son Sven Dirkschneider, who became a permanent member of his father’s band in 2015, as well as longtime ACCEPT bassist Peter Baltes, whose presence further strengthens the connection to the classic era of the band. Together they will deliver a set packed with the timeless hymns that made Dirkschneider one of the defining voices of heavy metal.
At Rock Hard Festival Greece, audiences will experience a celebration of the legacy of Udo Dirkschneider himself, a singer whose voice helped define the sound and attitude of classic European heavy metal.
